In 1994 the artist was invited to exhibit his work at Ruskin Mill Gallery, run by the Ruskin Mill Eductional Trust in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire. The Trust is active in the realm of Special Education and operates a Youth Training College for young people. The Artist suggested that parallel to the exhibition he would conduct a hands-on environmental sculpture workshop for the trainees. For a period of two weeks Axel Ewald worked with a group of youngster on creating a environmental feature for the estate of Ruskin Mill. An area edging on the Ruskin Mill brook was chosen for the project and, together with the trainees, the artist gave artistic form to the place, including a wooden bridge, a bench and other landscape features and individual environmental sculptures of the trainees.
